Abandoned sawmill houses grow op. Again.

In 2009 the RCMP followed rare birds and found a grow op in an abandoned sawmill. This winter, police followed the whiff of B.C. bud and found a new grow op in the same sawmill. The birds were there too.

The find started with an unrelated traffic check stop along an area of Highway 6 and the right wind blowing resulted in the search of a rural property near Midway.

Rumours of attempted abduction false: RCMP

Rumours of an attempted abduction in Salmo are false, say the RCMP, but they are investigating an alleged assault against a seven-year-old girl.

Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel, head of the RCMP’s Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment, confirmed police are investigating a possible assault that happened on Saturday, June 4.

Police arrested a man after a short standoff at his Salmo home following reports of threats made to a local businessman. According to a police press release, the RCMP arrested Heath Steininger, 28, on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 8 and charged him with uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
