Four calls in one week for Revelstoke SAR

It was a busy week for Revelstoke’s search and rescue crew last week when the team rescued seven people, reports Alex Cooper for the Revelstoke Times Review.

All the incidents ended well for those lost. One incident involved a skier and two others involved snowmobilers

The Canadian Freeskiing Championships are underway in Revelstoke right now, drawing international attention to the Kootenays, reports Alex Cooper for the Revelstoke Times Review.

The Freeskiing and Freeride World Tours merged this year, and are jointly hosting the Canadian championships.

Revelstoke avalanche victim from Ontario

The man killed in a Revelstoke-area avalanche was from Ontario, reports the CBC.

Ronald Greg Sheardown, 45, was on a heli-skiing trip southeast of Revelstoke on Friday, Dec. 30 when the avalanche struck.

Developer claims $14 million against Revelstoke

Five bears shot in Revelstoke within a week

It’s been a bad fall for bears in the Revelstoke area, reports Alex Cooper for the Revelstoke Times Review: five black bears were shot in the community over seven days.

Jeanette Vickers, the city’s Bear Aware coordinator, says a poor berry crop is forcing more bears to look for food elsewhere and they’re finding it in our garbage.

No smoking on city property. No smoking in parks. No smoking on sports fields. These are just a few of the places it could be illegal to smoke in Revelstoke should a proposed bylaw come into effect, reports Aaron Orlando for the Revelstoke Times Review.

Husband charged with wife’s murder

The RCMP have charged Peter Ernest Edward Beckett, 54, from Westlock, Alta., with the 2010 death of his wife, reports Alex Cooper at the Revelstoke Times Review.

Laura Letts-Beckett, drowned in Shelter Bay in August 2010. In June, police ruled her death a homicide and told media she was on the water in a boat with her husband.

Revelstoke mourns murdered man

Friends and family of Daniel Levesque, a former Revelstoke man killed in Victoria last week, gathered to mourn him in an emotional ceremony, reports David F. Rooney for the Revelstoke Current.

On Wednesday, Aug. 3 Levesque was found in a Victoria apartment with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital and succumbed to his wounds. Another man found in the apartment is being held in custody and police are investigating the incident.
