Province investigates Kootenay mill

The province is looking into the operation of the Meadow Creek Cedar mill, reports the Nelson Star. Meadow Creek, located north of Kaslo at the north end of Kootenay Lake, is in creditor protection and already under the review of the Forest Practices Board. Climber survives fall near MacBeth icefield

Search and rescue craft from Vancouver Island had to be called in to rescue a man near the MacBeth icefield, reports Sean Sullivan for the Vancouver Sun.
The man fell 12 metres down a waterfall on the hike, north of Kootenay Lake. His leg was jammed between two rocks and local search and rescuers were unable to reach him.
UPDATE: Fruitvale man drowns at Kaslo marina

Police suspect a Fruitvale man fell off his moored boat on the weekend, drowning in the Kaslo Marina.
On the morning of Sunday, Aug. 7, Kaslo RCMP Detachment received a report of a missing adult male. The subject, 40 years old, and his father were sleeping overnight on a boat moored at the Kalso Marina. The adult son apparently got up in the middle of the night and did not return to bed. All of the subject’s personal belongings remained on the vessel.
Antique Kaslo soda bottle sells big online

Bottle returns will usually get you five cents but a Fernie antique seller just cleared $866 with a bottle from a now-defunct soda company, reports Greg Nesteroff for the Nelson Star.
The bottle is a rarity because of the typos: It reads “CHOPPELL & KOPPS / CASLO BC,” instead of “CHAPPELL & KAPPS / KASLO BC.”
