As the City of Kimberley starts into culling deer in their community, a newly formed group has come forward asking the city stop, reports Carolyn Grant for the Kimberley Bulletin.

The Humane Treatment of Urban Wildlife Committee just heard about the city’s cull after nearby Cranbrook shared the results of their own cull. The committee has members in Kimberley, Cranbrook, Invermere and Grand Forks, all communities dealing with deer and considering or carrying out culls. Kimberley has a permit to cull up to 100 deer.
“I assure you, had we known or understood the method being employed and the ramifications of the proposed solution, we would have been involved sooner,” [committee chair Colleen] Bailey said. “I will speak for myself when I say I am ashamed that I was unaware of what was transpiring until the Cranbrook cull made the news in December and a concerned citizen contacted me.
