News there was no ambulance service on Christmas day and New Year’s has upset Castlegar’s council, who are asking the BC Ambulance Service for a refund, reports Craig Lindsay for the Castlegar News.

The Castlegar Fire Department answered five calls over those two days and council wants those costs covered.
Councillor Russ Hearne brought the motion forward.
“I don’t know all the particulars about how B.C. Ambulance regulates their schedule, but it should come as a shock to the people in the community that we didn’t have ambulance service available on those days,” said Hearne. “We need to make sure the residents of this area have that service available at all times.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to most that we in the “Heartland” are second class citizens, unworthy of proper emergency care.
Cool to see Kevin Chernoff use social media to get the puck moving on this one and help the council put it in the net. Twitter and Facebook posts can sure get the word out. Go get ‘em, Kevin.
Good thing Castlegar still has taxis… oh wait
