The world’s attention was drawn to the Kootenays in 2010 when police raided a grow op and found dozens of bears hanging around. While there was speculation the bears were kept to guard the pot, it turned out Allen Piche, who lived on the property, had been feeding the bears dog food for a decade. Piche was ordered to wean the bears off the food before the winter.
Allan Piche entered the [guilty] plea Tuesday on his second count of feeding dangerous wildlife, a charge that could result in a maximum fine of $200,000 and up to two years in jail because it is his second offence.
