The province’s health minister says there are 125 qualified anesthesiologists looking for work in B.C. but they’re not looking in Trail where a staffing shortage is burning out doctors, reports Kelly Sinoski for the Vancouver Sun.
It’s been six months that Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail has been short an anesthesiologist.

Abandoned sawmill houses grow op. Again.

In 2009 the RCMP followed rare birds and found a grow op in an abandoned sawmill. This winter, police followed the whiff of B.C. bud and found a new grow op in the same sawmill. The birds were there too.
The find started with an unrelated traffic check stop along an area of Highway 6 and the right wind blowing resulted in the search of a rural property near Midway.
UPDATED: Kootenay health clinics closing down

The Cranbrook Daily Townsman is reporting two Kootenay health clinics that specialize in sexually transmitted infections are closing down.
The report says clinics in Grand Forks Cranbrook are among the five Interior Health clinics that will be closed by the end of the month.

UBC digitizes historic Kootenay newspapers

Kootenay history, as reported by newspapers from days gone by, are now digitally available thanks to the University of British Columbia, reports Greg Nesteroff in the Grand Forks Gazette.
You can peruse the Kootenay Mail (out of Revelstoke from 1894 to 1905), the Hot Springs News (from Ainsworth, 1891 to 1892) or the Grand Forks Sun (1914 to 1920) among the 12 former Kootenay papers.
