Learn how to not get buried in snow

The Canadian Avalanche Centre is bringing avalanche safety courses to the Kootenays, reports Timothy Schafer for the Trail Daily Times.

The three-hour workshop covers safety for skiers, boarders, snowshoers and snowmobilers, says Penny Goddard from the avalanche centre.

“Winter is coming fast this year,” she said. “Just like we tune up our equipment for our first backcountry outing, these seminars will get your brain in tune.”

Here’s the schedule for the Backcountry Avalanche Workshops:

Rossland: Thursday, Dec. 1 at the RSS Gym

Fernie: Sunday, Dec. 4, Fernie Alpine Resort

The Canadian Avalanche Centre is also offering their Staying Alive Series at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on Saturday, Dec. 3.
