Mungall calls for return of Fish & Wildlife Compensation jobs

On the last day of the Fall Legislative session, MLA Michelle Mungall again asked the Minister of Energy and Mines to reconsider cuts to BC Hydro that will see the Columbia Basin Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) office shut down. This follows a month of waiting for a response to a letter Mungall sent the Minister on this issue.

Felled tree destroys forestry sign

Vandals cut down a tree and destroyed a forestry sign with it near Cranbrook, reports Sally MacDonald for the Cranbrook Daily Townsman.

Police believe a person used an axe to cut down the tree so it fell on the kiosk for the Cranbrook Community Forest. Kathleen Opal, a member of the community forest society, said the sign is complete write off.

Man who found RCMP spy cam wants compensation

Last week it came out the RCMP had placed a motion-triggered camera outside a Kootenay man’s home. Now he wants compensation from the police, reports Cassandra Chin for the Nelson Star.

Dion Nordick was living in Grand Forks when he found the camera, the same kind as those used by hunters to track game in the wild.

Teck investigates cadmium / copper spill

Teck is looking into what caused an excessive discharge of cadmium and copper into the Columbia River last week, reports the Trail Daily Times.

Daily, the smelter is allowed to discharge six kilograms of copper and four kilograms of cadmium into the river. On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Teck discharged 7.5 kilograms of copper and 11 kilograms of cadmium.
