A Jaffray man is facing charges of criminal negligence causing death following the accidental shooting of a teen, reports the CBC.
In June of this year a 10-year-old boy brought out a shotgun to show some older boys when the firearm went off in the young boy’s hands, killing Michael Voth, 17, of Fernie. Police have charged the owner of the shotgun, George Phillips, 51, with criminal negligence causing death and careless storage of a firearm.
“There’s only losers in this situation. So now we have a 17-year-old that’s dead, we have the immediate effect on his family, his friends and the residents in the area,” said [Cpl. Chris] Faulkner.

It’s easy to get careless, folks. Owning firearms is a privilege, not a right.
Next time you set down a gun for a moment, think of this story and make sure it is unloaded with no cartridge in the chamber.
Always store guns and ammo in a locked gun safe and hide the key. It’s common sense and as the gun owner, you are responsible for safe gun handling, not your kids.
