Group calls for charges against ‘rape manual’ authors

A Vancouver-based advocacy group wants two Castlegar men who created a Facebook guide to teen sex charged under child pornography laws, reports CTV British Columbia.
Jason Osachoff and Curtis Delikatny posted the guide, “Deflowered in Seconds” on Facebook and then removed as outrage spread throughout the community. Police initially said charges would be hard to press. Vancouver-based Justice for Girls says Canada’s child pornography laws could be used in the situation.
UBC law professor Janine Benedet says charges could be possible under the child pornography section of the Criminal Code, which states that material that “advocates or counsels sexual activity with a person under the age of 18 years” constites an offence.
She also says the article’s disclaimer doesn’t hold water.
“Simply calling it a parody or saying it’s a joke with a disclaimer shouldn’t be enough to immunize that kind of material from criminal prosecution,” Benedet said.
