The RCMP have recovered the body of Lana Chipesia several kilometres downstream of where her car was found in the Goat River.

Lana Chipesia

Chipesia went missing on Saturday, June 18 after she left home in her 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. Police believe her car ended up in the Goat River that same day but the vehicle wasn’t discovered until 11 days later when a submerged vehicle was reported to police on Wednesday, June 29.

Police and members of several search and rescue teams investigated the crash, an investigation that led to an accident that claimed the life of Sheilah Sweatman, a Ymir resident and search and rescue volunteer.

Sweatman’s body was found the next day and on Monday, July 4, the RCMP found Chipesia’s body. The police used their helicopter and a dog team to find her remains several kilometres downstream of the crash site.

The RCMP and BC Coroners Service confirm that it is the body of missing person Lana Chipesia. Both agencies are continuing their investigations into Lana’s death. A RCMP Traffic Services collision analyst is assisting in determining the cause of why Chipesia’s vehicle left the road on Highway 21 on Saturday, June 18.
