Missing woman found safe

There was a happy ending to the search for a Wardner woman who was missing three days in the East Kootenay, reports the CBC.
Charlotte Burch went missing on Monday, July 25 and was found safe on Thursday, July 28, six kilometres from where her car was found.

Fisheries experts have weighed in on the Beaver River Hydropower Project, a cluster of run-of-river installations proposed for Ventego, Cupola and Alder creeks, located northwest of Golden and on the Glacier National Park boundary.
The group of fisheries and aquatic technical staff reviewed the proposal. The review team consisted of members of the Ktunaxa Nation Council – Canadian Columbia River Intertribal Fisheries Commission (KNC), the B.C. Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).
CBT looking for champions to lead youth support program

Columbia Basin Trust has a new program to support youth in Basin communities. Community Directed Youth Funds (CDYF) will be piloted in six communities and their surrounding areas this fall. CDYF targets youth ages 12-19 and will provide each area with $100,000 over four years to increase activities, opportunities and services for youth. The program will be available to the remainder of the Basin over the next two years.
High teen pregnancy rate in Cranbrook

Recent statistics show Cranbrook has one of the higher teen pregnancy rates in the province, reports Jordyn Mayer for the Cranbrook Townsman.
His story also highlights the lack of abortion services in the East Kootenays, noting woman who want an abortion have to travel to Trail, three hours away and over mountain passes.

Searchers have found the car belonging to a 68-year-old woman who went missing on Monday, reports Sally Macdonald for the Cranbrook Townsman.
Charlotte Burch was last seen leaving her home on Monday, headed to Koocanusa Lake to see family. Burch has dementia but functions well, say police.

Cranbrook RCMP are seeking public assistance in locating a 68-year-old woman, who has been missing from her home in Wardner, B.C., since noon on Monday, July 25. Charlotte Burch was last seen driving away from her residence on the Wardner-Kikomun Road, south of Wardner, in her 2011 silver Honday CRV, licence number 372PEX.

Two more Kootenay papers join Black Press

Two more Kootenay papers have joined the Black Press newspaper chain, reports the Kelowna Capital News.
Owner Don Kendall sold the Cranbrook Daily Townsman and the Kimberley Daily Bulletin to Black Press. Rick O’Connor, the chief operating officer for Black Press, says his company plans to upgrade the press in Cranbrook.
