The RCMP in Castlegar arrested a 24-year-old man after a family alleged he had taken photos of a 14-year-old girl and sent them to her through Facebook.
Police received a search warrant for the man’s residence and found a computer with more photos of naked girls, believed to be in the Castlegar area. The RCMP are trying to determine the age of the girls, whether the photos were consensual and whether there were sexual relations between the suspect and the girls.
More charges could be laid against the man pending further investigations.
The man, whose name has not been released to protect the vicitms, is charged with:
- Two counts of sexual assault;
- Two counts of sexual interference;
- One count of possession of child pornography and;
- One count of possession of a prohibited weapon, namely brass knuckles.
The man was released and will appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 13. In a police press release, the RCMP say the man will be kept under close supervision to ensure he complies with a number of conditions including:
- A curfew;
- No contact with the victim(s);
- No contact with a female under 18 unless allowed by his bail supervisor;
- Not to possess a computer or other device able to connect to the Internet.
