An Australian family is retracing the steps of their son after he went missing from Grand Forks Hospital late last month.

Owen Rooney, 24, was last seen at the hospital when he showed up with two black eyes. Reports are vague, but it appears Rooney either wouldn’t, or couldn’t, tell how he was injured.

The young man then left the hospital, leaving his backpack, and hasn’t been seen since.

Rooney’s mother, Sharron, her husband and two daughters recently arrived in B.C. and are looking for the man. They are retracing his steps and handing out fliers.

“He has a wide network of friends and family who love him very much, so it is very unusual that he would walk out and leave everything. His bank account hasn’t been touched,” she said.

Rooney is 5’9″, has a tattoo of a kangaroo on his calf and speaks with an Australian accent.

Police are requesting anyone who may have seen Rooney to contact the Grand Forks Office at (250) 442-8288, their local police services or via Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
